At The Echo of the Sea, the relationship between indoors and outdoors is constant. Gardens, planted passages, shaded sitting areas, open dining spaces, and sea-facing terraces allow the experience of the villa to extend beyond the rooms. The day is lived across the grounds, not only inside the house.

What surrounds the villa
The villa is well-placed for guests who want calm as a default and access to the landscape and local culture as a choice. Frangokastello is two kilometres away. The wider region of South Crete is within easy reach by car.
Frangokastello Castle — 2 km
One of Crete's most iconic Venetian fortresses, built in the fourteenth century to defend the southern coastline. The castle stands directly above the sea, set against the White Mountains. In late May and early June, local legend holds that the fortress is visited by the Drosoulites — shadows of fallen soldiers, visible at dawn under certain conditions.
Local Tavernas — on foot
Galini Taverna is twenty metres from the villa — close enough to walk to for a spontaneous lunch or dinner. Kioni and Zorbas are within an easy eight to twelve minute walk along the coast. All three offer authentic Cretan food and warm local hospitality. For more dining options, Frangokastello is a ten-minute drive, with additional tavernas and cafés.
Orthi Ammos Beach — 4 km
A wide beach of golden sand dunes and clear turquoise water, seven minutes by car. Less visited than beaches on the northern coast, Orthi Ammos offers a calm, unhurried alternative for guests who want to explore beyond Lakkoi Beach. The landscape around it — dry dunes edged by sea — is unlike most other beaches in Crete.
Chora Sfakion — 18 km
The nearest town with a full range of services — shops, pharmacy, and a twenty-four hour medical centre. The ferry port connects to Loutro, a small car-free village accessible only by sea, and to the remote Glyka Nera beach, where a freshwater spring meets the Libyan Sea. The coastal drive is scenic throughout.
Kourtaliotiko Gorge & Preveli — 34 km
A dramatic canyon in the White Mountains, fifty minutes by car, leading down to Preveli Beach where a freshwater river lined with Cretan palm trees meets the sea. The full-day trip can include the Preveli Palm Forest and the nearby historic Preveli Monastery — one of the most rewarding drives in southern Crete.
Imbros Gorge — 27 km
A beautiful and manageable canyon hike in the White Mountains, forty minutes from the villa. The eight kilometre trail passes through narrow rock passages and ends in the traditional village of Komitades — a two to three hour walk requiring no specialist equipment. One of the quieter gorges in Crete, with stunning scenery and native wildflowers throughout.
